A. ELECTRIC QUADS
The Pros
Of course, a battery powered quad is much easier to maintain; after all, there’s no engine to service and the number of moving parts is minimal when compared to an internal combustion engine.
Simply plug the bike in after cleaning and it will charge ready for the next outing. It is also much easier to govern the speed on an electric quad than it is with a petrol-driven bike.
The Cons
An electric quad means you are limited to the miles you can cover. If you are into marathon riding sessions, a petrol-driven quad is for you. Distance restriction isn’t for everyone, but for a young rider, not having an engine does have its benefits.
Charging points might not be as common as you would like and if you love the sound when you open up a 500cc bike, perhaps the silent whine of an electric machine isn’t for you.
B. PETROL ENGINES
We all grew up with four-stroke bikes, then came the two-strokes and now we’re back with the fours.
Some riders simply can’t handle the thought of riding a bike with no engine and gearbox and for the die-hards, it has to be the roar of a finely tuned 750cc or nothing!
Love them or hate them, internal combustion engines have been with us for many decades and such is the advance in engine design, you can get 100hp from a 750cc 4-cylinder bike! Having that kind of power is addictive and EVs won’t attract all riders.
The Pros
If you know your mechanics, there’s nothing new to learn when you buy a petrol engine quad and self-maintenance saves you money. For some riders, EVs have yet to reach the point where they would consider making the switch.

The Cons
The rising price of fuel is more than a little disconcerting and if you are an eco-friendly type, exhaust emissions hardly go with the image. When it comes to oil changes, you will wish you had an electric bike and let’s not forget that all those moving parts that can go wrong at any moment.
